Fan Club - Dr Feelgood We've done some reviews of Patrick Higgins brilliant books about Dr Feelgood and Wilko Johnson and thought it was high time we did an interview with him Thank you for writing the books about Dr Feelgood and Wilko.  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them.  I notice you came across Dr Feelgood in the 70s  Could you tell us how you discovered them?   I discovered Dr Feelgood in September 1978 when I arrived in England from France, where I grew up, and went to a very liberal boarding school, Dartington Hall. It was with a "Live" LP I came across Dr Feelgood, but it wasn't Stupidity as Wilko had already left the band and had been replaced by Gypie, it was the album 'As it Happens'. It came as a shock! Man, that harmonica just blew my ears !!! I also discovered Wilko Johnson in the fall of '78 as his first solo album Solid Senders had just been released, it was simply awesome, with some excellent piano playing by John Potter. Par où commencer ? Wilko Johnson était un homme érudit et intelligent. En 1970, après des études à l'université de Newcastle, il prit une année sabbatique pour traverser le Népal et l'Inde. À son retour, il fonde Dr Feelgood avec Lee Brilleaux, Big Figure et Sparko. En 1976, l'album Live Stupidity sera n°1 en Angleterre ! Aussi bien passionné par la littérature Viking d'Islande que celle du 17ème siècle en Angleterre. Sur le toit de sa maison à Westcliff on Sea il avait fait construire un observatoire et installé un téléscope pour observer l'Univers. Un grand guitariste et compositeur de superbes chansons qui marqueront le Rock pendant encore des années à venir :  Roxette,   She does it Right, Going back Home avec Dr Feelgood, mais également avec les Solid Senders   Too Bad, Keep both Eyes on the Road et avec Ian Dury & the Blockheads . SHOT OF RHYTHM AND BLUES Patrick Higgins OK, so I’ve just got my copy of ‘ Shot of Rhythm and Blues ’ off the shelf to flick through again. It’s a coffee table book or, as the author describes it, ‘a pictorial essay of Dr Feelgood and Wilko Johnson’ I thought I was a real fan of Feelgood and Wilko – but this guy, well – he’s a superfan! He leaves me a long way behind. Enough of that - let’s have a look at what is in the book First off, after the acknowledgements, dedication and foreword is an introduction to the author, Patrick Higgins. Patrick came across Dr Feelgood in the late 70s and studied photography from 1982. He first saw Feelgood in ’82 when they were perhaps at their lowest ebb. Living in France he attended several Feelgood gigs, taking photos and getting to know the band rather well as the lineups changed. The book covers 10 years 1982-1992 and it feels like yesterday. Peux-tu nous dire comment tu as découvert Dr Feelgood ? C'est facile. Je regardais un programme télévisé régional appelé Geordie Scene en 1975. Je venais d'avoir 16 ans. Un nouveau groupe appelé Dr Feelgood a été présenté - j'étais fasciné. J'ai adoré l'énergie de leur musique et leur guitariste. Je suis allé au magasin local le lendemain matin et j'ai commandé le LP - Down By the Jetty . Qu'écoutais-tu à l'époque, pourquoi leur musique a-t-elle attiré ton attention? J'ai des goûts éclectiques en musique - j'aime Cat Stevens , Roy Wood , Mott the Hoople , Roy Orbison et 10cc . Cela dit, j'étais encore à la recherche de ma véritable identité musicale - j'ai été élevé avec des classiques et
