It had been a while since we last talked about DARTS , and yet they deserved it! Bertrand Tappaz reminded us of this by playing their latest track on his show “VOIX DE GARAGE” (an excellent show, by the way, we highly recommend it)... We put out the album Boomerang which sold out multiple times, and toured a massive European, UK, and US tour in support of it. We even recorded two new singles in Lyon, France. The Darts ended their European tour in Paris. We asked Nicole, their singer, if she'd like to tell us about this last day from the inside. She agreed, so here's her account. Les Monstres Sacrés PARIS, September 24, 2023 Point Ephemere We played a packed sweaty punk show in Brussels the night before and got to bed too late at a downtown hotel, as always. I woke up with my curly hair full of knots from the humid dive bar and my stage outfit hanging in the window, still not fully dry. We had an early lobby call for the drive to Paris, no time for breakfast or caffeine. We got on the road and, other than a couple of stops for mandatory snacks and espresso shots at the gas station, managed to pick up second guitarist Louise Sordoillet at the airport on the way into Paris. Taste question: Which artists have influenced you the most, and what can you tell us exemples about this influence? Who is the artist you dislike and why will he/she never influence you? Nicole: The Darts are influenced the most by Thee Trashwomen , for their primitive, trashy girl-gang sound, but also by classic garage like The Animals , for the vocal melodies and organ vibe, Nick Cave , for the ballads we have, and The Cramps , for the guitar riffs and tones and the overall style on stage. I can't say that we violently dislike anything, in fact I have very wide and differing musical tastes in this band, but modern power pop and modern country music are definitely very very low on our tas...

Lors de la dernière visite des Courettes à Hambourg , nous vous avions déjà parlé du Hafenklang. C'est au même endroit, cette fois moins rempli, que jouent aujourd'hui The Darts. Pour un lundi soir, il y a tout du même du monde dans la salle et l'ambiance me rappelle celle du concert de notre duo préféré. Comment serait-il possible de ne pas être de bonne humeur devant un tel groupe !  L'air est lourd (il fait exceptionnellement chaud à Hambourg!), et ces quatre jeunes femmes sont rapidement en sueur, ce qui n'affecte aucunement leur jeu de scène. Leur thème vestimentaire est les animaux de la savane. La chanteuse  attire tous les regards avec son  apparence d'une Betty Page habillée en amazone d'un charmant film d'après-guerre. Est-ce pour cela qu'elle sourit continuellement ou est-ce parce qu'elle adore ce qu'elle vit ? Juste elle le sait, mais en tout cas, nous l'admirons danser ; s'allonger lascivement sur ou sous son orgue Farfis...

  THE DARTS: "Snake Oil" (Alternative Tentacles Records CD/LP 2023) (Phoenix, USA) Nicole Laurenne (chant, clavier), Meliza Jackson (guitare, chant), Christina Nunez (basse, chant), Mary Rose Gonzales (batterie) The Darts se sont formées en 2016 et depuis, elles n'ont cessé de jouer et de sortir des disques dont ce Snake Oil sur Alternative Tentacles, le label de Jello Biafra. Ecrire que cet album est une réussite serait un euphémisme, il est magique et envoutant, sans doute un sort de la petite fée qui décore la superbe pochette vintage. Du Garage Rock mêlant Psyché avec parfois un zest de Punk, un vrai régal et encore un coup de cœur. 2023 est décidément une année pleine de bonnes surprises.  Facebook Bandcamp Fernand Naudin  (Merci d'avance pour vos commentaires !)
