SHA-LA-LEES - "we are now planning is to record our 4th album in september at the Sun studio’s"

Image
We've already talked about them, but we liked their latest album so much that we wanted to have a chat with them. Which led us to this very nice interview with Cédric from SHA-LA-LEES! Cédric, you play guitar and sing in the band. Tell us what made you want to get into music. Wel, like a lot of kids growing up in the 90’s my first encounter with music was trough MTV but I had great luck with my older brother who liked a lot of punk, hardcore and weird shit. He turned me on to bands like The butthole surfers, Misfits, Black Flagg, Roky Erickson and very important the Cramps ! So when I was 12 I decided to pick up the electric guitar. Sha-La-Lees originally came from three bands: the Sore Losers , de Noordkaap and the Spades . Can you tell us a bit about the history and highlights of each of them? After El Guapo broke up I started the sore losers with Kevin, our bassist. I wanted to do a more “song “ based band and only play guitar (I sang and did guitar in El guapo too) and I wa...

PERFECT BUZZ - Listen to "Supermassive Superstar" !

Image
One morning we received an email from a group we didn't know anything about. We love this type of email! We invite you to join us in discovering PERFECT BUZZ. They hail from Portland and have just released a digital EP called Supermassive Superstar on 1 May. Petey answers our Monster questions! Taste question: Which artists have influenced you the most, and what can you tell us exemples about this influence? Who is the artist you dislike and why will he/she never influence you? I’ve been an obsessive Beatles fan my whole life and was a stoner as a teen and listened to all of the big classic rock bands: Zeppelin, Floyd, Hendrix, etc. Lots of reggae and Grateful Dead too. After high school I got really into first-wave punk and hardcore and started playing in punk bands. Bad Brains was my favorite and were a massive influence. Around this time I was also getting very into Black Sabbath and digging deep into classic R&B, soul, rockabilly and blues. In the mid-90s a friend lent me t...

GNOME - INTERVIEW : "I recorded the last EP in a day"

Image
As you can see, we knew almost nothing about Gnome, which, for us, just consisted of Jay Millar... Well, we shouldn't trust the Internet! Anyway, give their EP a listen, because it's really great! Preparing for this interview is no mean feat. There is virtually no information about Gnome on the Internet. So let's start by sorting the real from the fake. Is Gnome a one-man band? Up Until 2025 Gnome has been my solo project, all recordings have been recorded, mixed and released by myself, with the ‘ I Like It ’ EP being the last ‘solo’ release. Now Gnome is a band with Ned Capp on Guitar, Olly Katsianis on bass, Ethan Robins on drums and myself Jay Millar on lead guitar and lead vocals. Are you from Melbourne? Yes, we are from a town 40 minutes out from Melbourne called Frankston. I've only found Bandcamp for the little info I've gathered. Promotion isn't your thing, is it? Well I don’t take Bandcamp very seriously and just use it to upload more ‘low-key’ release...

SORROWS - ARTHUR ALEXANDER INTERVIEW : “I was a HUGE fan of French 60’s pop music"

Image
Sorrows are back, Arthur Alexander and his band have just released "PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW" on Big Stir Records. This is powerpop at its finest. Gérard is the questioner, Arthur the answerer. Thanks to both of them. Arthur, can you tell us about the Sorrows' origins in New York? I started Sorrows following the breakup of The Poppees . The initial band lineup lasted about 6 months. I wasn’t happy with it, so I dismantled it and started from scratch. First to join was Jett Harris, The Poppees’ drummer. I heard he just left the band he joined after leaving The Poppees so rung him up. We had, a telephone conversation and Jett asked me what sort of vision did I have for my new band? I blurted out: “ABBA meets The Sex Pistols!”… there was a long pause on the phone, I thought he hung up on me… then about 30 sec. later Jett said: “I’m IN!”. Next came this guy from a newspaper ad we put in. He looked like a fucking refugee from Allman Brothers Band and had the ugliest guita...

NEW YORK DOLLS - THE MAKING OF " TOO MUCH TOO SOON " - DENNIS DRAKE NOUS PARLE

Image
Rarement un disque a pu porter si bien son titre que « Too Much too Soon » des New York Dolls. "Babylon"...
