INTERVIEW MONSTRES: THEE WOPS: "We like the French audience, they are very much into rock and roll music!"

Image
Taste question: Which artists have influenced you the most, and what can you tell us examples about this influence ? Who is the artist you dislike and why will he/she never influence you? Beeing since ages in deep love with the music from the Sixties we would say that our biggest influences are the Beatles and the Stones  plus Kinks, Them, Pretty Things and the Who, but mainly we’ve been listening to garage punk, the music played mostly by unknown bands in America in the Sixties, these bands  were raw and aggressive and for sure influenced by the British Invasion Music. We don’t like bands like Kansas, Styx and in general American pomp rock. The music we like has to be raw and not polished at all. The bands we named are too slik for ou...

DES DEMONAS - INTERVIEW : "I’m always drawing, everyday! It’s something I truly enjoy more than making music. More than life itself."

Image
Jacky Cougar is the lead singer of the band DES DEMONAS. Originally  from Washington, and signed to the Californian label IN THE RED  Records, the band performed live this summer in Paris at Le Petit  Bain, a well-known venue located on Quai de la Gare, at the foot of  the BNF (National Library of France). I discovered Jacky Cougar  through a newsletter from Slovenly Records, which featured the  all-female trio SEX FACES, of which Jack is the drummer. Their new  album is scheduled for release in 2025. Here are some questions I  asked him via email a few weeks after DES DEMONAS' performance. They  played an intense concert, full of a captivating groove and  60s-inspired energy, driven by Jack's mesmerizing vocals, delivering  his personal and politically engaged lyrics, accompanied by an unusual  trio—no bassist, but with Matt on drums, Paul on Hammond organ, and  guitarist Mark Cisneros, a regular member of Kid Congo Pow...

Chilling, Thrilling Hooks And Haunted Harmonies: The Big Stir Records Halloween Grimoire Part 2

Image
BIG STIR Records wanted to celebrate Halloween in their own way and with the artists they love. The result was released on October 10 and is called “Chilling, Thrilling Hooks And Haunted Harmonies: The Big Stir Records Halloween Grimoire.” Rather than telling you about it in one of our usual columns, we thought it would be nice to have some of the artists who participated share their Halloween memories! Thank you to those who agreed! Happy Halloween to you all! THE ARTISTS, THEIR MEMORIES, AND THEIR COSTUMES BRANDT HUSEMAN of Splitsville: Matt (Huseman, my twin brother and also of Splitsville) and I, and our friend Eric, went to a Halloween party dressed as dead rock stars Sid Vicious, John Lennon, and Brian Jones. We took pains to make sure the makeup and costumes were consistent with how they died. Not everyone got it but the ones who did were blown away. Brandt Huseman of Splitsville: “Here’s me in my skeleton kigurumi. It’s not just for Halloween you know…” GRAHAM PARKER : No...

THE ARTISTS, THEIR MEMORIES, AND THEIR COSTUMES REX BROOME of The Armoires (and The Pepper’s Ghost Players, and co-producer of “Chilling, Thrilling Hooks and Haunted Harmonies”): I’ll always remember 2025 as “The Year It Was Halloween for 10 Months Straight,” since we (Christina Bulbenko, Michael Simmons and myself) started working on “Chilling, Thrilling Hooks and Haunted Harmonies” in January, and it’s been our focus ever since! But since Halloween has been the focus of many creative projects over my life, from costumes and ...

DIDIER BALDUCCI (DUM DUM BOYS , XYZ ...)
