French advert in BEST Rock magazine  On 8th, 9th 10th July 1978 in Paris, there was the festival Le rock d'ici (meaning: homegrown rock) à l'Olympia. The Olympia, oldest concert hall in Paris, was founded in 1888. Up to 2,000 people capacity. Traditionally, a bulwark of the French chanson culture. Chanson culture in France was so strong that 24 years after the origin of rock ‘n’ roll in the USA, 16 years after the first  Beatles  single, in 1978, chansons sung in French still dominated the French charts. Unlike the UK, where there was a clear distance between established rock music and newly emerging punk, in France that distance was less, as ‘all rock was more less underground’ according to French punk band  Asphalt Jungle . Premièrement, que signifie ce pseudonyme, Tollim Toto ? C’est juste mon nom de famille à l’envers et son diminutif. Lou’s signifiait-il vraiment loubardes ? Raphaëlle a peut-être voulu créer un personnage quand elle a déclaré à Alain Pacadis que nous étions des loubardes qui jouions du rock. Ou peut-être se percevait-elle ainsi. Je n’avais qu’une mobylette, un peu risible pour une loubarde. Disons qu’on était un peu rebelles. C’est Sacha - Saskia qui a trouvé ce nom, et à vrai dire, on ne lui a jamais demandé ce qu’il signifiait, on trouvait que ça sonnait bien. Comment a eu lieu la rencontre qui a donné les Lou’s ? Il se raconte que c’était à Harry Cover. C'est vrai ? Inexact. Pamela Popo (Odile Paulhac) et moi on s’était rencontrées en terminale. Comme on essayait de former un groupe,

  Les Lou's restent le premier groupe Punk français entièrement féminin. Formé à Paris, fin 1976 ou début 1977 selon les sources, il naît de la rencontre de quatre filles fans de rock 60's, en particulier des Seeds   et du Velvet Underground .  Selon un article de Francis Dordor dans Best,  leur nom serait un diminutif de Loubardes ou Louloutes employé du côté de la Bastille d'où les filles sont originaires.  Après des mois de répétitions, Saskia de Jong (aka Sacha de Jong, batterie), Pamela Popo (guitare, chant), Raphaëlle Devins (guitare) et Tollim Toto (basse) font leurs premières armes à Paris courant mai 77, dans différents endroits de la capitale dont le Gibus. Elles sont ensuite programmées au second festival de Mont de Marsan , les 5 et 6 août où elles jouent deux fois ( The Jam ont dû apprécier...), le 5 après-midi et le lendemain.   Herman De Tollenaere published the PIN fanzine in the Netherlands from 1978 to 1981. He was also one of the lead singers of Cheap N'Nasty  (with Terry) and played with  Raphaëlle Devins  ( The Lou's )  and Captain Sensible ( The Damned ).
