INTERVIEW MONSTRE - KÜKEN : "Go for le coq sportif"

What is a Monster interview? Unlike the lengthy interviews we sometimes offer, it's limited to a few questions. From week to week, you'll find different recurring themes. It's up to you to choose your favorite questions, or to read the whole thing.

ALIEN SNATCH RECORDS have just released their latest album, which is a guarantee of quality. We advise you to listen to it, then you'll want to discover their other older productions. For now, let's find out a little more about the band from Philipp of the Küken.

Taste question: Which artists have influenced you the most, and what can you tell us examples about this influence? Who is the artist you dislike and why will he/she never influence you?

We are influenced by all kinds of different music: 70s Punk and Powerpop, Garagepunk from the 90s/early 2000s, 60s and 70s Rock music in general. We like the Dead Boys, but also the Stones, Neil Young, CCR and the
Reatards . We are not influenced by Techno or Trap.

Intellectual question: Which 'non-musical artist (filmmaker, writer, painter...) played an important role in the way the band evolved...

I gotta say influences from this area weren`t that big. But a director we all like is Stanley Kubrick for example. "2001: A Space Odyssey," "A Clockwork Orange," are great movies. The Atmospheres and thought-provoking themes he is creating, is quite impressing.

History question: Can you sum up the life of your group?

KÜKEN formed 10 years ago. We all played in different bands before. My brother and me wanted to start a group where all members live in the same city, so regular rehearsals are easy. We never had that before, We found Knut whose bands just went a bit quiet at that time. Things took off quickly with tours and releases.

Champollion question: What is the meaning of the band's name?

KÜKEN means "baby bird". KUKEN (without the dots) means dick in Sweden. We weren`t aware about that detail! Scandinavians always piss themselves if they come across our band :-)

Buddy question: Who has helped you most in your band's adventure and without whom you wouldn't have had the same evolution?

We always get help from different people and friends: Graphic design, printing, photography, labels.

Spinal Tap question: What's the most stupid thing that's ever happened to you?

During a European tour we forgot all our merch at a Club in Paris and couldn`t collect it the next days, cause everyone was outta town. We had to drive back a couple of days later. Pretty stupid.

Question Happy Few: What's the biggest benefit you've derived from your band, and can you tell us about it?

Meeting lots of funny and cool people and going to so many places we would never have gone if it wasn`t for the band.

Art question: What book, film, record and current band made you flash?

You gotta check out SLANDER TONGUE form Berlin. Good buddies, excellent band. Generally, I don`t follow current bands that much anymore, but looking forward to the new SHEER MAG LP. I also like the new NATURAL CHILD record.

Funny question. What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you?

We were on tour with our friends from PEITSCHEN and went to a local butcher in the middle of nowhere in Germany. The staff were surprised by our appearance. When we said we are a touring band, they gave us free sausage. The butcher also sang a song for us. Good times.

Camembert question: What's France to you, apart from the land of wine and cheese?

Lots of Smoking and red wine drinking. Also being annoyed and refusing to talk English hahaha

Sponsorship question: Who can you sponsor for Les Monstres Sacrés, and how can you convince us to talk about them?

Go for le coq sportif.

Merci Küken
