INTERVIEW MONSTRE: NASH ALBERT: "Thank God I was able to make a decent living out of my music."

Nous avons été enthousiasmés par chaque album proposé par Nash Albert. Sa musique, fruit d'influences multiples, échappe de ce fait à toute vaine catégorisation. Il a accepté aimablement de répondre à nos questions. Nous l'en remercions.

Taste question: Which artists have influenced you the most, and what can you tell us examples about this influence? Who is the artist you dislike and why will he/she never influence you?

I have to say that the two bands with the greatest influence on me are The Beatles and The Doors. I always loved the song writing and the depths of their music. Plus, they were able to open new and different dimensions of art.
I can’t name a specific artist that I dislike, but I am not a big fan of music without a certain edge, depth and innovation in it. This applies to, I would have to say, most modern artists.

Intellectual question: Which 'non-musical artist (filmmaker, writer, painter...) played an important role in the way you evolved…

There are plenty of them. Since my childhood I have been very much involved in world art, thanks to my parents. I can definitely name the worldwide Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli, also Ernest Hemingway, Alexander Duma etc. Salvador Dali is my favourite painter. My favourite filmmaker is Sergio Leone. All of these artists fired my young imagination with wisdom and helped me to relate to the ever-changing world around me.

History question: Can you sum up the life of your career?

Evolving.

Selfish question: Why did you prefer a solo career than being in a band?

I believe bands are for young people. As I grew older, my desire also grew to share my own growing life experience with the world.

Buddy question: Who has helped you most in your adventure and without whom you wouldn't have had the same evolution?

Too many to mention by name. Supportive parents, good friends, great musicians, great producers I used to work with from all over the world and, of course, people around me on a daily basis.

Spinal Tap question: What's the most stupid thing that's ever happened to you?

Screwing up the showcase for Atlantic Records in the US in 1992 because we were too drunk on stage ).

Question Happy Few: What's the biggest benefit you've derived from your career, and can you tell us about it?
I have never worked a single day in a routine, daily job — as a clerk, etc. Thank God I was able to make a decent living out of my music.

Art question: What book, film, record and current band do you really like?
None, too shallow and stupid.

Funny question. What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you?

Supporting Deep Purple (my USSR childhood heroes) in the Olympic Stadium, 2010 in Moscow. I felt like I was living in a funny dream.

Camembert question: What's France to you, apart from the land of wine and cheese? (you're allowed to Google it, the theme is rock and underground culture).

Amazing cinematography, great actors and painters and, of course, amazing musicians such as Serge Gainsbourg, Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf. Also, I always loved French football.

Sponsorship question: Who can you sponsor for Les Monstres Sacrés, and how can you convince us to talk about them?

I would recommend amazing Moscow rock bands such as Sergei Voronov and The Crossroadz, and Backstage Band. There are also a couple of great bands in Georgia like Badford Falls and Green Mama.

Patriotic question: Make the list (between 5 & 10) of the top records made par artists of our country.

I’m very sorry but I don’t know French music by albums.

Patriotic question 2 : Make the list (between 5 & 10) of the top records made by artists of your country.

Nash Albert, ‘Kingdom Of Love’.

Sergei Voronov and The Crossroadz ‘Irony’.

Backstage Band ‘Music To Grow Hair To’.
